The life of an interior designer is not as glamorous as you think... and everything is not always perfect. So many of you may have noticed I have been M.I.A. in the blogging world all last week. Well let's just say the past two weeks have been nothing short of pure chaos. First my computer decides to up and stop working, I get bugs (yes bugs), and I'm down to the last weeks of preparation for two back-to-back pop-up shows.
So lets start with my computer malfunctioning. This was something the Apple Store could not fix so they had to send my computer off to have it serviced and I was without it all last week. Not only were all my client projects on that computer but all my blogging notes were also. So I was forced to use my husbands PC, which let me tell you was like having to learn how to use a computer all over again. Oh and for reference you can't use an external hard drive formatted for a Mac on a PC. Needless to say no blog post made it out last week nor did any logistics of my client projects. So this week I get to play catch up. But let's be real honest is there really a such thing as catch up? I will never get that time back.
Now let me tell you about the bugs. Last week I noticed this scratchy sound in our bedroom. But I was running late to a meeting and did't really investigate and played it off as just the house settling. You know the same thing you tell yourself when you hear creepy noises at night. But later that day when Austin got home he yelled for me to come upstairs. He heard the scratching sound too. Well it was coming from the mantel I installed under our TV in our bedroom. Except unlike earlier that morning the scratching was super loud. My first thoughts was a mouse had got trapped behind it. Well I shined the flashlight behind it- and nothing. Well later that night about 10 o'clock I heard it again. This time noticing sawdust on the floor right up against the mantel.
I went into panic mode. In my mind I had brought termites or some wood destroying bugs into my home in that old mantel. I called our dear friend who works as a pest management specialist and described what I was calling "demons" in my mantel. So at 10:30 at night we unmounted that baby and put her outside. I was taking no chances. Well come to find out after we had the mantel inspected it was harmless bugs that are almost always found in old wood. The mantel was treated and the demon bugs are now dead. And here I thought I was going to have to throw it away after I had worked so hard on refinishing it. But now the mantel has taken up residence in our garage because I haven't had time to remount it to the wall in out bedroom. I hope to get it back up tonight.
Now about preparing for back-to-back shows. Not only am I at a very busy time with my design business I have not one but two back-to-back shows to prepare for. So while I'm not running around to my clients houses, working on design plans, product shopping and answering emails, I have a paint brush, a drill, or a saw in my hand. Preparing for two shows is tuff especially when I have no time to prepare stuff for the second show if I sell out at the first one. So I am working really hard to make absolutely sure I will have plenty for both. Below are some pictures at the warehouse and my painting notes. The first picture is from around the time I moved in, the second picture is from about 2 weeks ago and I currently have even more- 2000 sq ft fills up fast.
Well that is my life in a nut shell right now. However, I always like to look at the bright side of things. My computer being down last week allowed me time to truly focus on getting stuff ready for my shows. I am beyond blessed and thankful I am busy. Earlier this year I was beginning to think my design business was never going to take off or I was never going to have enough projects to keep me busy. However, I am quickly learning when you put your heart and soul into something you love it will prosper and bloom. So right now my life may be a little crazy but I and truly thankful!
With love,
