A couple years ago I was at Anthropologie shopping and saw a felt garland that I fell in LOVE with… but what I didn’t fall in love with was the price tag. I think it was somewhere around $150. Whomp...whomp. So I kind of just put it out of my head until this year when deciding on how I wanted to decorate my Christmas mantel. The vision of this perfect felt garland haunted me like the ghost from Christmas past. And guess what?! It was no longer available- even if I did want to cough up a large chunk of change to buy it.
Well here is something you probably already know but I love a good DIY especially a DIY where you can get the same look for less. I guess the reason I never thought about making it back then was because it was actually kind of intimidating. A LOT of pieces! BUT guess what? I made it and it was actually super easy AND super cheap. I created my own version of Anthropologie’s $150 garland for less than $8. WHAT?! I know I can’t believe it either.
So here is my tutorial on how I created my DIY Felt Leaf Garland using supplies from JOANN.
DIY Felt Leaf Garland Tutorial
Supplies:
Olive Green Felt (25 sheets)- CLICK HERE
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Hot Glue Sticks
Craft Time: 1 hour or less
Instructions:
Step 1: Gather all your materials and get ready to craft a beautiful felt leaf garland.
Step 2: Cut your felt into various sized leaves ranging from small, medium, and large. There is no right or wrong shape. I cut a variety of designs. Also cut small strips about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. Cut enough strips to reach your desired length for the garland.
Step 3: Make your leaves three dimensional by pinching the end together and glueing with hot glue.
Step 4: Hot glue the long strips of felt together on the ends until you have the length of garland you want. Begin attaching your leaves to the felt strip. Keep layering leaves until you reach your desired fullness.
Step 5: Keep layering and filling in as needed. I tapered mine down at the ends with smaller leaves.
Follow these 5 easy steps to create your own felt leaf garland. It doesn’t even have to be exactly like mine- make your own version to fit your space and style. Use bigger leaves, use color, add in some detail! HAVE FUN WITH IT!
I attached mine to my mantel using nails but command hooks would work also without making holes. I also added some twinkle lights to give it a cozy glow.

Thank you so much for checking out my tutorial. I hope this gives you the confidence to make one of your own. And thank you JOANN for providing the supplies for this DIY. I love seeing my little creations inspiring others to create their own version. Snap a picture and tag me on social media- I will be sure and share.
*Be sure and store you garland in a temperature controlled environment. Putting it in a hot attic may make the glue melt and you will be left with a pile of leaves instead of a garland.
With love,
