Spring time means long lines at Lowes Hardware and getting your home ready for summer. Here is an easy DIY project to add tons of curb appeal to your boring or dated garage doors.
I have always loved carriage style garage doors and the character they add to houses. Our garage door was the first thing I saw when looking at our house- a large white rectangle with no character at all. Replacing an entire garage door is expensive, so I started brainstorming ways I could make our existing garage door look more like a carriage style door.
I found these great faux windows on amazon.com that bolt right to your existing garage doors to give it a more custom look.
Since my garage door is a double car I ordered two sets of the windows. They arrived and were super easy to put on. I also bought carriage door style hardware from The Home Depot. You can also purchase these on Amazon, again I bought two sets since my door is a double. These were also super easy to put on. All parts simply went on with screws/ bolts provided in kits.
Then I painted my doors in a faux carriage house style- appearing as though there were two separate doors. I used Valspar Storm Coat in the color Liberty Bell- the same color as my shutters.
The entire project took about 4 hours and the difference it made was astounding. All the neighbors were stopping and complementing the (what they thought were) new doors.
This project is my favorite exterior update I have completed on our house. It made such a difference to our curb appeal.
Project Break Down:
-Faux Garage Door Windows (two sets): $199.96 Free Shipping
-Faux Garage Door Hardware (two sets): Approx, $40.00
-Paint: $21.98 (I used what was left from painting my shutters)
Total: Approx. $260
